Jungle Wud - Photos

There is a stark contrast between the rugged beauty and harsh reality of life and death in the jungle. I wonder if this is lost with the people who call it home.

Thank you for taking an interest in the people
we serve and love.

Enjoy, and thanks for visiting.

Ladies in Black

The black tushmas are common with the Ashanica people in eastern Peru. I could never understand how you could wear black when it's 95 and humid every day.

Opah's Girl

This young lady was dressing up for a special occasion. Not sure what it was though. Never knew her name, but she was one of the three wives of Opah. She had the privilege of being the 'favorite'.

This is Opah

He's not usually this grumpy looking. He's probably just cranky because he's sick of wearing his fancy cloths.

See, the village behind him isn't his. Opay lives by himself, with his three wives and a monkey, out in the jungle, roaming nomadically where ever the jungle calls. Cloths are something he's not used to wearing.

Accion Popular

100 miles away and 30-days of travel from the nearest paved road, people are still inundated with political propaganda.

There is a manditory vote in Peru, which means if you want to win, you have to promise something to the millions of natives living in the jungle.

Lost in San Barnardo

So many beautiful faces and people. This young girl lives hundreds of miles from anything we would call civilization.

Her face is tatooed with typical marks from her small tribe in the village of San Barnardo, deep within the Amazon River Basin.
